Provenance
The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).
Summary
Telling her that he has just received "the welcome intelligence of the recovery of the my purse, stated to have been picked up in the market by a respectable countrywoman;" saying that he has written to authorize payment of the reward of £5, but he would like her direction before going forward; reporting that his health is improving; thanking her for "the great kindness you have shewn me."
