Provenance
The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).
Summary
Saying that the enclosed letter of introduction, from Hans Christian Andersen and introducing the painter Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann, has been sent to her three times and returned three times: "At last, in terror, affliction, and despair, she has brought it here;" adding that he hopes Hannah Brown is better and he will try to come by and enquire after her tomorrow.
