Provenance
The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).

Inviting her and Hannah Brown to Gad's Hill; giving her directions and information about the trains; adding "Hans Christian Andersen may perhaps be with us, but you won't mind him -- especially as he speaks no language but his own Danish, and is suspected of not even knowing that."
