Provenance
The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).

Reporting on the amount of John Hullah's bill and saying he will pay it the following day; saying that he will be going to Eton with Charley and asking if they can change the date of the Committee meeting; adding that he will be at the Home working on the Mark Book; reporting on the praise Charley has received from his tutors; expressing his hope that Miss Coutts's sister's health improves and referring to discussions over the character of Miss Mowcher in David Copperfield.
