The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).
Summary
Saying he has seen Mr. Illingworth and "would like to say a word to you about this letter - though it really is almost too pitiful and contemptible a thing, addressed to a lady of your position and character, to talk seriously about;" suggesting times he might call on her.
