The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).
Summary
Regretting that he cannot go to Shepherd's Bush that day "...as I want to go to Broadstairs to see my children, and have been unable to do so, on account of certain sad daily visits to a sister at Hornsey, who is dying;" enclosing outstanding bills and receipts; asking when he might call on her.
