Summary
Chiding him for bringing her "all those frightful newspapers", despite her having told him that she does not read them, and remarking facetiously that they will not deceive or distract her from his questionable assignations, or deflect her from her intention to kill him at the first opportunity; resuming her letter to him after a visit from "young Jourdain", who was preoccupied with the question of whether or not to accept a post as an assistant architect in the provinces and forgot his umbrella; recounting her disappointment at discovering that it was her young visitor and not Hugo at the door when he rang, as he cannot divert her from her main preoccupation, which is to see Hugo and have more of his company.
