The letters formed part of the Burdett-Coutts sale (Sotheby, 17 May 1922); they were purchased for Oliver W. Barrett in whose collection they remained until it was sold by his son (Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951).
Summary
Giving the name and address for the person who will bring the drying apparatus to Scutari and assemble it there; enclosing a letter from Harriet Martineau (this is no longer with the letter) and saying that in his reply, he told her that they were in accord in their ideas about diet and practical education; mentioning that he had a memorandum of Charley's expenses in Leipzig, but forgot to give it to her.
