Summary
A Madame Groult wrote to her that an English woman would like to buy one of her works. Since Madame Groult is holding onto all of her paintings and drawings and doesn't want to sell any of them, she told the woman to go see [Jos] Hessel. Hessel, however, has already written to Laurencin to tell her that he's not doing business anymore, so the English woman, Miss Grey, needs to go see Rosenberg. She appears to be an artist herself and makes beautiful white-lacquered furniture. A young, talented, and independent writer in Madrid has proposed writing an article about Laurencin. He had seen her works that Diego Rivera took to Rosenberg on her behalf at Rivera's home. She says that all the big money in Madrid, that is to say foreign Jews married to Spaniards, know her and will probably buy some of her works out of snobbery. About the money question: Her friend, Monsieur Grainé, inquired at the bank and can withdraw the money due to her. This is a comfort to her, and she finds herself in better financial circumstances than all her women friends. Unfortunately, she is unable to help them, since she has to pay her rent.
