Summary
Being a poem of three 4-line stanzas as follows: Upon a hill there grows a tree / Whose roots go down among the dead / And in a still security / Enmesh each hollow, dreamless head. / Upon the tree blossoms a flower, / Whose beauty, sprung from deathly fears, / Transmutes the pain of every hour / And is bedewed with living tears. / From withered flower falls a seed / That's made into immortal bread / And to eternity shall feed / The hungry living, and the dead."
