Summary
Says that he's sorry that Rosenberg won't be able to reopen his gallery in Paris until October 1947 but that it's not all bad news, since Rosenberg seems to be making good use of his time in New York. He writes about Rosenberg's proposal that they renew their collaboration, but he foresees many problems since everything must be done by correspondence. Rosenberg wants to be the first person to see Braque's work, but Braque doesn't feel he can leave Paris, and Rosenberg's request would preclude any exhibitions there. He is also not in a position to control his own artworks because all of them are on display in London, an exhibition in Zurich is almost certain, and there may be one in Basel. He feels that after 6 years' absence, he shouldn't neglect the possibilities of being exhibited in other countries. So, he is going to wait until the end of the fall to respond to Rosenberg's proposition. If Rosenberg comes to Paris in July, they can discuss it then. He thanks Rosenberg for sending him the royalties check he received through his intervention, since he knows that in general, the US doesn't pay. (in postscript) he asks if it will be possible for his paintings that were exhibited in San Francisco to be returned soon.
