Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
On stationery with engraved letterhead: "78, Watergate Street, / Chester."
With extensive editorial markings, presumably made by Knight, who quotes from Davies's letters in his "Retrospects" (Smith, Elder & Co, 1904).

Summary
Saying that he has copied out a Michelangelo sonnet for Knight with contextual material; discussing his health and his thoughts about mortality and the "next stage of being;" recommending Anima Poetæ : From the Unpublished Notebooks of Samuel Taylor Coleridge; saying that he hopes Knight's family is well: "I sometimes wish you were nearer ; - and yet, even then, I might find a difficulty in seeing you : for this city of my residence is greatly unknown to me."
