Summary
Recounting the difficulties he had returning to Varengeville after his visit to Rosenberg in Floirac. Convoys of troops and refugees slowed them down, and when they finally got to Varengeville, they found it had been bombed, so they packed up again and left. They are now staying with relatives of their cook for a few days and are having great difficulty finding a house. If conditions improve, they'll return to Paris. He thanks Rosenberg for his hospitality, an "oasis in the torment." He says that he thinks it would be a good idea to transform/convert what he left with Rosenberg ["le depot"--a sum of money, see MA 3500.38] but would like to consult with Rosenberg in person about it, so he will go to see him the following week. He asks what Rosenberg has done about Matisse and asks if he had any new works.
