Summary
The weather in Varengeville is cold and depressing, and the light is poor for working. To cheer himself up, Braque has been reading about [Admiral Richard] Byrd's expedition to the South Pole, by the fire. He'll be going to Paris the following week and hopes to see Rosenberg. In any case, he's looking forward to Rosenberg's visit to Varengeveille. Braque has received a letter from Garçon, his lawyer, informing him that he thinks Braque will soon be in possession of his securities.
