Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Davies gives the place of writing as "78, Watergate Street / Chester." The year of writing has been taken from the postmark.
Written on a postcard with a pre-printed half penny stamp.
Addressed to: "Prof W. Knight etc. etc. / University / St. Andrews / Scotland."

Summary
Saying that he has just settled in Chester and finds he is near the Queen's High School, which Knight is due to visit soon; describing his current physical state and capabilities: "I am accompanied by a nursing attendant, and this evening positively walked to the High School and back : a great feat for me to accomplish [...] At present half an hour on foot pretty well exhausts me as I only walk in a hobbling fashion;" mentioning that he is editing some of the writings of James Smetham.
