Summary
Saying that he wished he had known that Knight had letters from James Smetham when he and Sarah Smetham were preparing a collection of Smetham's correspondence; adding that Mrs. Smetham now owns most of the letters her husband sent to friends during his lifetime and, if Knight does not want to keep those sent to him, she would appreciate having them; adding that he has asked Macmillan to send Knight a copy of the new edition of the letters and reacting to reviews of the volume; mentioning news of Dora Greenwell; sending Christmas and New Year's wishes; enclosing a recent photograph of himself (no longer with the letter): "I look somewhat better now - not so much of an invalid. I still possess yours from the old days;" saying that he would be glad if Knight could help draw attention to Smetham's Letters.
