Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Crawford lists only "Thursday" for the date of writing. Given his reference to Nichol's death in the letter, it may have been written in 1894.
On stationery with blind embossed letterhead consisting of the seal of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the address "The Club House / St. Andrews / Fife."
