Summary
Concerning Knight's book on the Lake District and Wordsworth; discouraging him from trying to attend the Keswick meeting and saying "I doubt whether you would get very much out of Bowness Church - It has been 'restored'. We know the full impact of that word - note Hawkshead for example - There is a new regime beginning at Grasmere - and I am in fear of a 'restoration! I am sorry that Lady Richardson can give no help about the ash tree at Hawkshead. Can you imagine being on the spot with Wordsworth & not asking him about it? or being asked & not remembering his reply? The best excuse is that she may not have seen the Prelude at the time of her visit - It was not then printed, I think;" giving the details of his residence for the next 2 months, first in Mullingar, Ireland and then at Grasmere from August 9th.
