Date of writing inferred from related correspondence; related letters in this collection indicate that Doyle had sent his manuscript for "The great Keinplatz experiment" to the editor of Belgravia by January 5th of 1884, when he sent an inquiry to the magazine asking that they return the story should they have no intention of publishing it (see MA 14076.6 and MA 14076.10).
Written on black edges printed stationery with armorial crest, reading "Bush Villas / Southsea".
Forms part of a collection of letters addressed by Doyle to the editor of Belgravia magazine (Andrew Chatto) and the firm of publishers Chatto & Windus, proprietors of Belgravia.
