Summary
Regarding the authenticity of a presentation inscription on a copy of his novel South wind, from himself to Joseph Conrad; relating the opinion of a friend who "is ready to swear that the dedication is not written by me", expressing his own skepticism concerning the origins of the inscription ("if I had to swear one way or the other, I should agree with him."), stating that he had no correspondence with Conrad after November 1916 and is therefore unlikely to have sent him a book published the following March, noting that he almost always dates his dedications, and describing the middle line of the inscription as "suspicious."
