Summary
Asking for advice on "...the suggested rule for the use of the subjunctive in the enclosed paper, & therefore write to ask if you could possible find time to let me know any suggestions for improvement which may occur to you. I trust your trip to the Mediterranean was as successful as I hoped it would be. Alas! for the Spencer Portrait - not a single sitting so far has taken place, Spencer pleading ill health ever since last year. Sir Joseph Hooker, & Herkomer are in despair, to say nothing of - / yours sincerely."
