Summary
Expressing his pleasure that he liked the [Spencer] portrait; saying "It is some return for spending all one's leisure for ten months on it! I am forwarding your letter to a friend of mine who is vice-president of the Midland Institute, & will write you further when I hear from him. I hope your American trip was enjoyable & did you good : altho' I fancy it would be difficult to find a better or healthier place than where you are, it is so bracing!".
