Summary
Stating that he received the proof for "Fear is what quickens me" this morning and is returning it at once; hoping to receive a note from Merwin soon, which must be true since he accepted the above poem; writing that after their last correspondence, he finally got his own copy of "The drunk in the furnace" and has a lot of thoughts that he will write in a different letter, but he is grateful for the book and gives a summarized opinion; saying that based on his suggestion of sending items that he finds interesting, he is submitting 2 enclosed poems by 2 people: one, a translation by a friend who is a classical scholar, and a set of 6 short poems by another friend; adding that neither are a student of his and that he doesn't teach "creative writing"; concluding that his colleague, Sarah Youngblood, writes poetry in private, and he likes it.
