Notes
Corrected typescript for Paley's short story "The little girl" published as a part of collection of short stories "Enormous changes at the last minute" by Farrar, Straus, Giroux in 1974. The story also appeared in the Paris Review, No. 57 Spring 1974. The story is based on a true event that was told to Paley by the narrator, a friend she met through the Southern Conference for Human Welfare in the 1950s.
