Summary
Complaining that [John Jackson] is late in arriving for his appointment with him; saying "I find you are mistaken in one part of your Friends Talents, & that He is a grand Humbugger, a most Atheistical break-promise, & no less eminent in his Skill as a Painter, than notorious for his disregard to his appointments. Has He induc'd you to believe he was coming to Bury to take a portrait of my Block?;" referring to two gentlemen Jackson will call on in Bury; adding "He has the high commendations of Both these Gentleman, & the great Qualifications of a great artist, as to Skill in his profession & disregard to his punctuality - As to me, I have given him over & shall no longer expect him;" saying he is sorry to hear that Lady Beaumont is not well; adding "If this Genius should arrive, you shall know immediately - but as I suppose He is not quite a Magus, or has the rapidity of the Irishman's Bird to be in two places at the same time, I shall not wait dinner."
