Title page includes typed notes: "Final Draft, November 1999 [Final Polish: December 2000]" and address for Merchant Ivory Productions in London; title page also includes note in an unknown hand "Ismail's script." A photograph of Aasif Mandvi is laid in preceding title page.

The screenplay for The Mystic Masseur was written by Caryl Phillips based on the novel of the same title by V.S. Naipaul. The film was directed by Ismail Merchant and produced by Merchant Ivory Productions; it premiered in the United States on 5 October 2001 and was released in 2002.
