Shooting script of approximately 145 leaves (typed on the rectos and many with handwritten additions on the versos) heavily annotated by James Ivory throughout. Title page includes telephone number for the London office (of Merchant Ivory Productions), the note "Third Draft August, 1992," and James Ivory's mark of ownership. Script is typed on white, blue, pink, and yellow leaves. Script is preceded by typed unit list (3 pages, stapled), typed cast list (2 pages, stapled), and two Aerogramme letters from Ruth Prawer Jhabvala in Delhi: one to James Ivory, dated 14 September and one to James Ivory and Ismail Merchant, dated 19 October. Script is laid in red wrappers, upper cover stamped "The Remains of the Day" and with address for Studio Duplicating Service.
The screenplay for The Remains of the Day was written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala based on the novel of the same title by Kazuo Ishiguro. The film was directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant for Merchant Ivory Productions; it was released in the United States in October 1993.

Each of the thirty-one films he directed for Merchant Ivory Productions is represented in the collection, beginning with the production company's first film, The Householder (1963), and including, among others, The Europeans (1979), A Room with A View (1985), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993), The Golden Bowl (2000), and The City of Your Final Destination (2010).
