Notes
Notebook kept by James Ivory while editing the film Mr. and Mrs. Bridge. Front flyleaf is stamped "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge." The notebook also includes an essay "Death & Old Hudson Valley mansions," which is dated 2 August 1990. Notes, clippings and added material are laid in throughout and a crew list (11 pages, stapled), dated 13 November 1989 is laid in at end.
The screenplay for Mr. and Mrs. Bridge was written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala based on the books Mrs. Bridge and Mr. Bridge by Evan S. Connell. The film was directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant for Merchant Ivory Productions; it was released in the United States on 23 November 1990.
Part of a collection of film director James Ivory's heavily annotated shooting scripts, editing notebooks, and small scripts. Each of the thirty-one films he directed for Merchant Ivory Productions is represented in the collection, beginning with the production company's first film, The Householder (1963), and including, among others, The Europeans (1979), A Room with A View (1985), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993), The Golden Bowl (2000), and The City of Your Final Destination (2010). The collection also includes two films directed by Ivory's partner, Ismail Merchant (In Custody (1994) and The Mystic Masseur (2002)).
