Small script of approximately 110 leaves heavily annotated by James Ivory throughout. Title page includes the note "Second Draft August, 1992," and James Ivory's mark of ownership. Script is bound with metal brads covered with red tape.
A note in James Ivory's hand is adhered to the title page: "The Remains of the Day."
The screenplay for The Remains of the Day was written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala based on the novel of the same title by Kazuo Ishiguro. The film was directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant for Merchant Ivory Productions; it was released in the United States in October 1993.

Each of the thirty-one films he directed for Merchant Ivory Productions is represented in the collection, beginning with the production company's first film, The Householder (1963), and including, among others, The Europeans (1979), A Room with A View (1985), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993), The Golden Bowl (2000), and The City of Your Final Destination (2010). The collection also includes two films directed by Ivory's partner, Ismail Merchant (In Custody (1994) and The Mystic Masseur (2002)).
