Notes
Shooting script of approximately 200 leaves (typed on the rectos and some with handwritten additions on the versos) heavily annotated by James Ivory. Title page includes address for Merchant Ivory Productions in New York and the note "Second Draft." Script is typed or printed on white, pink and yellow leaves. Some leaves are fax pages dated variously in 1994. Script is laid in to blue wrappers, upper cover stamped "Jefferson in Paris" and with address for Studio Duplicating Service.
With a note adhered to a printed notice "Ten Ways to Help Yourself Stay Healthy" laid in preceding script: "Jefferson in Paris 1995."
Jefferson in Paris was written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. The film was directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant for Merchant Ivory Productions; it was released in the United States on 31 March 1995.
Part of a collection of film director James Ivory's heavily annotated shooting scripts, editing notebooks, and small scripts. Each of the thirty-one films he directed for Merchant Ivory Productions is represented in the collection, beginning with the production company's first film, The Householder (1963), and including, among others, The Europeans (1979), A Room with A View (1985), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993), The Golden Bowl (2000), and The City of Your Final Destination (2010). The collection also includes two films directed by Ivory's partner, Ismail Merchant (In Custody (1994) and The Mystic Masseur (2002)).
