Summary
Explaining that he had written previously to Chapman's brother Thomas to request an increase in his salary and explaining to his employer that his pressing need for the increase is owing to the fact that his fiance's guardians have withheld their consent to his proposed marriage to their ward, Miss (Harriet) Lovell, citing the couple's anticipated income of £250 a year as insufficient to properly maintain them.
