Summary
Commenting on an ode; making reference to the Cyclops in the Odyssey, to Bacchus and wine-drinking, and the poet Anacreon; mentioning a recent thunderstorm in Hereford: "One man was killed, another very much scorched & the whole town with great reason very much frightened. We had only the tail of the storm here, but it shook the house"; saying that he has not yet received a certain sketch from Benjamin West and he is waiting impatiently for it to come via the Hereford coach; adding further thoughts about the Cyclops in a postscript and explaining the delay in his response.
