Summary
Acknowledging receipt of Hessel's sad letter of December 20, 1941 (MA 9076.118) and wishing him courage in his time of such sorrow. Rosenberg has hung Vuillard's portrait of Lucie Hessel in his apartment. He will thank everyone in New York who has offered Hessel their condolences. Rosenberg is still trying to recover Hessel's Vuillard representing the interior of a café. At the present time, it is in New Orleans, being held by the French Consul there. He will write to him to see if he can take possession of it, as Hessel desires. He needs a letter signed by Hessel and certified by the police commissioner and the American Consul authorizing him to take possession. Business is bad in New York, but he's still working hard and has just organized a very successful exhibition of works by van Gogh.
