It is not known when this copy was made, or in whose hand it is written. It was most probably drawn up around the time of the gift, but this cannot be confirmed.
The list is followed by a note with the following text: "The above list was sent to the Trustees of the British Museum in June 1823 by Sir G Beaumont engaging to present them all to form the commencement of a national Gallery about to be built whenever it is in a state to receive them."
This letter is from a large collection of letters written to Sir George Howland Beaumont (1753-1827) and Lady Margaret Willes Beaumont (1758-1829) of Coleorton Hall, and to other members of the Beaumont family.
This item was formerly identified as MA 1581 (Beaumont gifts to the British Museum, no. 6).
