Summary
Hessel is glad to hear from Rosenberg but concerned about Rosenberg's health. Hessel's home at Le Chateau des Clayes has been pillaged by the Nazis, who removed all his works of art. He had to leave in a hurry. He announces the death of (the painter) Vuillard. Hessel has had to move from place to place, as the Nazis keep requisitioning buildings, and is now in Cannes. His daughter Lulu married Jacques Arpels (from Van Cleef & Arpels) on Oct. 31st. Georges Bernheim's wife has died, and his son is a prisoner in Germany. He is in Cannes as well, as well as Gaston Bernheim and Marcel Kapferer. Paul Ebstein is in the country. Hessel is upset that everything he has spent 60 years collecting has been taken away and scattered. Tristan Bernard is in Cannes as well.
