Summary
Thanking him for sending soap, butter and chocolates, which, however, he never received. He hasn't written in a while because he wanted to tell Rosenberg some good news. He has explained whatever it is to Rosenberg's brother Edmond, who will write to him about it. He will communicate Rosenberg's request to Jacques Laroche (see later letter) and will do the same to Madame Signac. He informs Rosenberg that an administrator has been appointed to liquidate his (Hessel's) gallery in Paris. Everything has been removed from his home, the Chateau des Clayes. Business appears to be good in Paris, but the money people use to pay for things is worthless (see later letter). He hopes that life in America will restore Rosenberg's health. The Hessels just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with the Kapferers, the Georges Bernheims, and other friends. In a note at the end, he asks if Rosenberg has been able to take possession of his paintings and put them in a safe place.
