Summary
Informing him that he has learned of the death of Josse (Bernheim--see MA 9076.93). Also tells him that the Administration (des Beaux-Arts) cannot refuse to relinquish his paintings to him. In fact, he has already taken possession of those from the (1939) World's Fair (see related letters). He is sad to hear that Gaston (Bernheim-Jeune) is ill and wonders how he will take the news of his brother's death. Rosenberg says that he himself is in bad health (see MA 9076.93). He has a limited diet and must stay in bed. He will be unable to resume his activities for a long time. Business is not good in New York either because people have a huge tax burden and because prices have fallen dramatically. Rosenberg is willing to sell any works of art that Hessel can send him without making any profit for himself. He speaks of Americans' solidarity with the French and tells him that we, too, are suffering from all the restrictions they have to deal with.
