Summary
Informing him that what he has asked Georges (Bernheim) and Hessel to do is unfortunately impossible. He feels that Rosenberg doesn't understand their desperate situation (during WWII). Hessel asks if Rosenberg has procured the two paintings he sent to the World's Fair in San Francisco. He says that Rosenberg's letter did not provide details about the paintings in New York and Buenos Aires. Hessel is unable to determine a price, since he hasn't been selling paintings lately. He has received a letter from (Sam) Salz (art dealer, collector, and patron of the arts) about the two Vuillard "Women in the Flowers" paintings in the show in Buenos Aires. At one time, Hessel was offered 35,000 francs for them, which at the time of the writing of this letter was $6,000. Hessel speaks of how difficult everyone's situation has become because of this sad, unjust war and hopes that it will end soon. His health is not good, and he has lost 48.5 pounds.
