Address panel with postmark to "Miss Smith / Theatre South Shields / to the care of Mr. Faulkner."
The letter is undated, however it is addressed to "Miss Smith." Sarah Smith married George Bartley in 1814. Mr. Faulkner was the Manager of the theatre in South Shields from 1806-1820. It is possible the date range may be 1806-1814.
Removed from an extra-illustrated volume from the series Dramatic Memoirs (PML 9505-9528).

Summary
Expressing happiness at receiving her letter and relating her plans; saying "We have got our tremendous affair over - we have sold our goods & are set comfortably down at a neat little Lodging a few doors below our former House - the name is Scott 'thither write my Love'. - I suppose we shall remain here near a fortnight - then we sail for London - when the time arrives (if we are still in England);" expressing her hopes of returning and getting to know her better; saying "I hope indeed I shall return & know you more & prove myself worthy of that enthusiastic warmth which noble minds alone can known, & grateful ones appreciate, of that at least I can boast - perhaps too painfully so; I have had some trials lately -I thought I had only common acquaintance of I have found a kindred Friend of & I feel a sorrow too great to be expressed in being oblig'd to leave them - Farewell believe me your Sincere Friend;"
