Summary
Relating the terms of an agreement he has made with Simms & McIntyre of Belfast for a new edition of his work; asking whether it "...would be better to put Fortescue aside for a time, and to proceed at once with the new novel which will be complete, please God, by the end of the month...Fortescue will be enhanced in notice by the success of a completely new work. I suppose you could go to press at once, as I have upwards of [illegible] volumes and a half complete. The work will average I should think rather more than 300 pages per volume. Have you read the true version of Lord Holland's loan to poor Sheridan. It appeared in the last Sunday Times;" adding, in a postscript, "I consider the New Work to be greatly superior to Fortescue;" saying it is from "...Chapters of a story which I began in Chapman's Magazine and which was very much admired. Those Chapters greatly altered & distributed. Scarcely recognisable."
