Summary
Saying that he has decided to purchase the house at Polsted that he had mentioned in a previous letter (MA 9513.20); adding "The writings are ready, & I understand the title to be clear. Two letters have been sent respecting the money, & I have hardly known what to reply"; writing that he called at Smith's Square that morning, expecting to see his uncle, but there were "no tidings of you, & we imagine you must be unwell"; reporting on the political turmoil in the wake of the general election of 1802: "London has been these 15 days past in a state of Confusion. Sir Francis [Burdett] was yesterday supposed to be the member, but the Sheriffs have this morning returned Mr [William] Mainwaring by a majority of 5"; adding his wife Elizabeth left on Sunday and has arrived safely in Bath.
