Summary
Confirming the receipt of money from his uncle and thanking him for it; giving details of his financial arrangements and the management of his father's annuity; reporting on his benefit: "My benefit at Bristol was an overflow -- numbers were turn'd away -- never was a greater triumph"; listing the takings for the night; noting that his expenses were slightly increased because of the inclusion of a pantomime called "The Siege of Quebec or Death of Genl. Wolfe"; adding that he had written to Lord Northampton (probably Charles Compton, Earl of Northampton) for permission to use some of his soldiers in the pantomime: "He return'd me a very polite answer acquiescing to my request [...] at the same time he inform'd me he had heard a very handsome account of me from Mr Martyn. He attended the performance"; mentioning that he has written to George Colman on the subject of a future performance and he awaits Colman's opinion "which will influence me very much"; thanking his uncle for his kindness on behalf of himself and his wife Elizabeth.
