Summary
Concerning the progress of his theatrical career: saying that his debut in London has been "unavoidably deferr'd for several reasons, which to you would be uninteresting & unnecessary to enumerate. The chief & most material one is the want of a Theatre which cannot be compleated till January. Mr Kemble [possibly John Philip Kemble] advis'd with me in the most friendly manner; his opinion was it would be best to obtain a situation if possible either at York or Bath. At the latter of these places I have fortunately suceeded; where I am to remain a season & appear here in the [Sept] following; I shall therefore set off shortly; & I trust this will meet with your approbation"; thanking his uncle for "the very kind & flattering reception you gave me"; adding "I hope you will do me the credit to believe I am perfectly sensible of every error I have been guilty of, & that I look upon you as my best benefactor & friend"; sending greetings from his father, his mother and his "good friends at Lambeth."
