Notes
Abercromby gives only "Sunday Morning" as the date of writing. He was dispatched to Malta at the end of October 1800 to command the invasion of Egypt and the capture or expulsion of the French garrison there. Abercromby was wounded in the Battle of Alexandria in March, was transferred to the H.M.S. Foudroyant, and died on board on March 28, 1801. This letter was most likely written between November 1800 and February 1801.
Addressed to "Captain Young R.N. / Foudroyant." William Young was assistant captain aboard the H.M.S. Foudroyant during the preparations for the attack on Abu Qir Bay.
Written in the third person.
