[for Arnold Bennett] seems and seemed to be present"; mentioning that even the head waiter remarked on this: "It is quite extraordinary how strongly we all remember him. I spoke to A.G.G. of what you said. He said 'It's quite true. Poor old Arnold!' & grew very thoughtful"; thanking Sassoon for coming.
