Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Written on stationery engraved "Dover House, / Whitehall, S.W." and embossed with the seal of the Secretary for Scotland.
Cochran-Patrick was appointed Permanent Under-Secretary for Scotland in December 1887 and served until his retirement in 1892.
