Thanking him for his kind gift of poems, a photograph and "sweets for the children which I have heard spoken of with much enthusiasm"; telling Sassoon that he has had a guest staying with him, so that he has only had a chance to glance at the poems, but when the guest leaves he will re-read them with care; sending a book of Wilfrid Blunt's including a poem called "Esther" (he may be referring to "Esther -- A Young Man's Tragedy"); mentioning that the Fitzwilliam Museum has the finished manuscript of the poem, and that he has the draft at Wayside (his home in Cambridge); commenting "[s]ome of the other poems in the volume are good, others are juvenilia"; writing "All good luck to you in your soldiering -- We look forward to many a good talk with you in years to come."
