Summary
Telling Knight that he has "severed my connection with my dear old College [Blairs College], not being able to carry on the duties of Rector & Bishop"; discussing what he was able to achieve at Blairs: "Since refusing the good Marquis' £20,000 -- I have spent over £32,000 in Blairs -- an entire new Creation -- with very handsome new Church & all paid for except a few thousand! which I hope to clean off. We have a new Curriculum -- are under Government Inspection, & I don't see why we might not aspire to some government aid -- The Chief Inspector thinks we are entitled to it! -- It is the largest secondary Education Establishment in the Country"; inviting Knight for a visit: "Perhaps when you are next in Aberdeen you will come and spend a day or two together -- & fight our battles over again & go out and see Blairs."
