Notes
The year of writing is not given however Childers held a Clerkship in the House of Commons from 1895-1910.
Childers and Cowper were early members of the Cruising Association and through it shared a love of sailing.
Written on stationery embossed with the seal of the House of Commons.
The letter includes several mathematical calculations in pencil in an unknown hand underneath Childers' signature on page 3 and a drawing in pencil with calendar notations on the verso.

Summary
Providing navigation details on two French canals "...from the official hand-book. As you know, there are two canals in the distance from where the Garonne ceases to be navigable to the Mediterranean;" giving the length, number of locks and the depth of the Canal Lateral de Garonne, to Toulouse and the Canal du Midi, Toulouse to the sea; adding "I hope the boat progresses satisfactorily. It is some time since I saw her."
