Relating his work on the Dutch translation of "Outlines of the History of Religion" and a revision of his volumes of Ewald's History of Israel; saying "You will be surprised to learn that I have resolved to translate no more! The clouds are gathering fast in Gordon St. Mrs. Martineau was carried down stairs as usual on Monday evening, but another attack took place which left her very weak. On Tuesday she lay almost speechless the whole day, though manifesting signs of recognition. Yesterday she had a little regained her power. 'She has a great deal of strength to wear out yet', said Dr. Martineau sadly. They know not when the end will be: one may be pardoned for wishing, for their sakes, that it may not be long now;" relating news of a mutual friend in Yorkshire who is recovering from an illness.
